Jennifer Keller Bergel is a TEACHER.
As a high school teacher and sister to a middle school teacher, I have seen the demands on teachers increase significantly due to a weakened economy: pay freezes, increased class sizes, fewer resources, etc. Teachers need to feel that they can do the job well every day – after all, their job begins well before school hours begin and follows them home most nights and weekends during the school year. There are many school staff who support those teachers – without them the schools wouldn’t be attended via busses; schools wouldn’t be clean and safe; teachers and parents wouldn’t have support when they walk into a school; and children would not be fed each day. The entire system must work together to meet the needs of all who are a part of it. Understanding the way a school system works is critical to maintaining the great school system in Loudoun with which we are blessed. This philosophy is a way to address the present while looking toward the future – I accept the responsibility of doing so.
