As your PC gets older it will typically run slower and encounter errors. This is primarily due to the installation of new software, removal of old software, disk errors, and sometimes viruses and spyware. In order to maximize the performance of your PC we look at the health of the hard disk, examine it for spyware and viruses, clean up old entries in the registry, and check that it has adequate memory to run today's applications.

Our PC Tuneup service includes:

• Pickup and delivery of your system (within a 20 mile radius of Lovettsville, VA)
• Physically cleaning the PC - clean dust from inside the case, CD, and diskette drives
• Check the PC for hardware issues
• Check the hard disk for errors
• Defragment the hard disk
• Investigate performance issues
• Present the owner with a detailed report on findings

Virus and spyware removal is included in this service (up to 2 hours' effort) if the PC has current and up to date antivirus software. If the PC is unprotected virus removal will be charged at our standard hourly rate plus the cost of a one year subscription to McAfee, Kaspersky, or Norton antivirus. We will also install Lavasoft AdAware free edition (non-commercial customers only) or AdAware Plus.

• Collect the OEM CD containing your PC's operating system and drivers in the event the problem cannot be recovered

The Fine Print

Virus and Spyware Removal

We will make a reasonable attempt to remove viruses and spyware, up to 2 hours' effort. Additional hours will be charged only after obtaining your approval for the estimated additional time. In general it is far more cost-effective to reformat your system and reinstall from the OEM CD than to spend more than 2 hours trying to recover it. Ultimately it is up to the customer whether to spend hundreds of dollars trying to fix a badly-damaged system or reimage and start over.

Should it become necessary to reload your system we will perform the following as part of the $99.95 PC Tune-up service:

• Make a reasonable attempt to back up your My Documents folder prior to erasing the hard disk
• Reformat the hard disk and return the system's software to the original state
• Verify that Windows is operating properly
• Install the latest Windows patches, including Service Packs
• Installation of additional software is NOT INCLUDED in the PC Tuneup service, but can be performed at an hourly rate (you must provide the software CDs and any necessary activation codes / keys)
• Note: we will not, under any circumstances, install (or reinstall) illegal copies of software. It is the responsibility of the owner to ensure any software being installed is legally obtained.

Back Up Your Data!

Although we will make every reasonable attempt to back up your My Documents folder, Elvan Business Technologies will not be held responsible for data loss. Please ensure your critical files are backed up before handing your system over to us for service.

Hardware Repairs

We will work with you to determine the best course of action for hardware repairs. Typically we will use sources such as Ebay for new (or used) parts, with the approval of the owner. Hardware repairs are billable at our hourly rate. Should we agree that the system is too costly to repair we can destroy the hard disk (to protect your personal data) and dispose of the old system for you.
