Biography
A lifelong resident of Lovettsville, Jennifer Keller Bergel lives with her husband Noah and their four children in the house in which she was raised. She is a graduate of Loudoun Valley High School and earned a B.A. degree in English with a minor in secondary education from James Madison University. She also holds an M.A. in English literature from George Mason University.
Bergel returned to Loudoun to teach in January 1995, working first as a long-term and daily substitute teacher and homebound instructor and later joining the English department at Loudoun County High School, where she taught for 11 years. She has also taught as an adjunct instructor at the Loudoun campus of Northern Virginia Community College. Currently she teaches high school in a neighboring public school system.
As a youth, Bergel was active in 4-H and school clubs, taught swimming lessons, and was a lifeguard at area pools. She was the first recipient of the Kiwanis Club of Goose Creek scholarship in 1990. Her desire to serve her community continued during her college years when she served as a Big Sister in the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program. She also read for the Valley Voice, a radio station for the vision impaired, and trained Special Olympic swimmers.
A member of Zion Lutheran Church, Bergel teaches Sunday School classes and has been a member of the church’s budget committee. She also coaches soccer with Loudoun Youth Soccer Association in the fall and spring, volunteers as a Stroke and Turn Judge for the summer swim league, and serves as the Catoctin District representative of the Loudoun County School Board.
Bergel believes that her experiences with Loudoun County Public Schools as a student, teacher, parent, and taxpayer have helped her to maintain a well-rounded perspective while serving on the School Board. Two of her four children attend Lovettsville Elementary, the school that she attended, while her other two attend Harmony Middle. She has enjoyed being a voice on the School Board for her fellow citizens’ expectations and looks forward to meeting new faces on the campaign trail.
